The Evil Within Review
This is the best review of The Evil Within. The horror super scary game. The review will give you a deep inside about the game. The Evil Within is an almost reboot of survival horror, mixing a large portion of Resident Evil and Silent Hill with SAW. A police detective, you wake up swinging from a meat hook during an investigation of creepy mansion du jure.

The game is terrifying and unnerving, with hints of psychological horror thrown in as well. This is a brutal, gruesome, and terrifying return to the survival horror roots. If you like terrifying games, this is a game for you. The graphics are gorgeously disturbing, the music is fantastically tense, and the controls are very responsive and tight.
The graphics and environments have to be seen to be believed. I wouldnt trust myself to play this with headphones in a dark room without wearing a diaper. The fact that so much of it is unique and well detailed makes it so much more engaging, and its a lot harder to remind yourself its a game when you can actually picture a building or forest youre in that looks one youve been in.
The game play has some serious hits and misses. The most frustrating is the Dead Space "playing dead" zombies. While you can toss a match and burn them to ash, a nice touch, there are some hallways that despite being wide enough, you cant skirt around them. You can avoid combat, but if you have been doing so for a while, you can suddenly find yourself completely surrounded if you trip one alarm and awaken the whole level like a chain of undead dominoes. I dont like clearing a level, going back through a door and getting pounced on because I completed a puzzle and taht awoke Batch 2. If I burned the ammo to empty a hallway, that hallway should stay empty.

The main thing for me is the Agony Crossbow. While its nifty and a nice distraction when you first start playing with it, its so central feeling to combat that I kind of got fed up with it. I get that the team spent a while working on this, and I like having a quasi silent weapon, but can I just have my .357 back please?
The puzzles are really what makes this a more visceral and overly grosteque feel. While there are a handful of other puzzles in other games that make you cringe, I cant think of one that wouldnt creep you out to the point of needing to play this with the lights on.
There are some nits large and small. The level up scheme is rather shoehorned, the fact that you can carry so few matches, some of the ghost overlays are somewhat tacky and dont easily fit into the story, and the typical interactable items do not glow brightly enough to easily spot them among the rest of the game level. Traps can be hit or miss when you first start dealing with them, and I died once while I was disarming one because I no joke sneezed on the controller.
Overall, some annoyances with overall setup aside, this is the best of all worlds. Wonderful stealth and combat like Resident Evil, combined with the puzzles and "youre a lot squishier than those zombies are" of Silent Hill, this is easily the scariest game Ive played all year.
I recommend this to anyone whos a fan of horror or disappointed in the direction that survival horror has taken recently (RE5/RE6, Dead Space 3).
