The end of Music Thing for now Four years ago, I had a job editing laddish lifestyle magazines funded by the National Health Service. It was a great job, great people, and not very time-consuming. So, at work and at home I started writing Music Thing. To my surprise and delight, people started reading it. It was fun and all-consuming. Every day you - the readers - sent me great stories which I had time to research and post. The things I learned doing Music Thing (the internet stuff more than the guitars shaped like guns) have now helped me get a job where Im in charge of the online output of The Times newspaper, managing 40+ people and a history going back to 1785. I spend all day on the web, talking and thinking about traffic, developers, links and readers. Its no longer what I want to do at home, so this will be the last Music Thing post. The Day The Music Died #AOL to discontinue Winamp as of Dec 20th   After 16 years of Whipping the Llama�s Ass , it looks like the company that should never have survived the dotcom bubble is discontinuing the media player that is a hallmark and legend.         Of course, we�re talking about AOL deciding to shut down Nullsoft altogether, meaning Winamp and all related products and services go dark as of December 20th 2013. Users are (of course) looking for alternatives to Winamp while many are simply saying they�re going to continue using Winamp until it spontaneously explodes from being abandonware.   I have a mixed feeling about this situation... I�ve been using Winamp for the entire 16 years that it has existed (I remember the initial release in 1997), and it�s been my favorite media player since then. To see it being discontinued by AOL is like the ultimate �Are you fucking serious?� moment followed by the invention of a string of obscenities ...

The Music Explosion Little Bit O Soul 1967 us marvelous garage psych beat 2002 remaster This is an improvement over the best previous Music Explosion compilation, One Ways Anthology, in that it not only contains all 21 of the songs from that release, but adds three non-LP B-sides not on that CD. Granted, all three of these B-sides are psychedelic instrumentals that most likely feature session players and not the Music Explosion. But those are rather cool tracks, in the manner of the trippy fuzz guitar-organ psychedelic songs heard on soundtracks to films exploiting the hippie movement. More importantly, perhaps, the package also includes respectful detailed liner notes, with quotes from several bandmembers. All that borne in mind, you still cant get around the fact that the group didnt have anything too great to offer other than "Little Bit o Soul."
