The Chocolate Watchband Forty Four 1966 68 us impressive acid garage psych

The Chocolate Watchband Forty Four 1966 68 us impressive acid garage psych In the roll call of 1960s garage band heroes, the Chocolate Watchband reside at the very top. Their notoriety derives from the handful of singles and LPs that they made, balanced between the Watchbands own intense Anglophilic blues wailing, and mysterioso studio trickery on the half of producer Ed Cobb. Their best-known cut is probably Lets Talk About Girls, which appeared on the seminal 1972 garage band sampler Nuggets,, but the Chocolate Watchband have many more such gems within their vintage catalogue, all of which is available to you in fully remastered sound on Big Beat Records. The original Chocolate Watchband was formed in the autumn of 1965 at Foothill College on the San Francisco peninsula, with a six-man line-up that featured guitarist Mark Loomis and drummer Gary Andrijasevich. Playing the R&B and folk rock of the day, the outfit did some recording, but outside of their unusual name, made li...

The Bleu Forest A Thousand Trees Deep 1968 us tremendous garage psychedelia 2016 reissue

The Bleu Forest A Thousand Trees Deep 1968 us tremendous garage psychedelia 2016 reissue In late 1965, drummer Jack Caviness was recruited by guitarists and vocalists Michael Cullen and Gary Heuer. All were from the same small town, Moorpark, CA. The three of us worked on original songs written by Michael for 6 months. At that point we added Ed Steele on bass guitar and spent time bringing him into the fold. When ready we began playing small gigs around Moor parkand surrounding areas and received a good reception on the original music. Then we were booked into an open mic night at the Troubadour in Hollywood. That is where we were discovered by future music icon Jimmy Haskell. Mr. Haskell immediately scheduled us to record a demo at his home studio which we did. We could never have believed what happened next. Both Gary and Michael were drafted were drafted into the armed service as Vietnam war was going strong. Both evacuated themselves to Canada, they were there several months prior ...

Rationals The Rationals 1969 us stunning detroit r n b garage rock 2011 extra tracks remaster

Rationals The Rationals 1969 us stunning detroit r n b garage rock 2011 extra tracks remaster At the time of the albums release, Detroit rock was epitomised by the Grande Ballroom and the powerful sounds of the groups associated with it, such as the MC5, Stooges, SRC, Amboy Dukes and Frost. The Rationals were younger than the majority of the musicians in these groups, and they ploughed their own rock/RnB furrow, resisting the heavyweight arrangements deemed mandatory, and eschewing the fashionable hirsute image of the time for a neat, latter-day mod look. Not that the Rationals were unpopular at the high energy Grande far from it. The group appeared as a regular, and no doubt refreshing, alternative to the bluster of many of their harder-edged contemporaries. Their classic 1969 single Guitar Army became an anthem of sorts for Detroit rock, with its universal truth that seemed to have been submerged in the overheated revolutionary rhetoric of the time that the music was the mes...

The E Types Introducing The E Types 1965 66 us splendid garage beat

The E Types Introducing The E Types 1965 66 us splendid garage beat In the mid-60s, this group from Salinas, CA, (near San Jose) played a pleasant blend of British Invasion-inspired pop/rock and a touch of garage. With prominent keyboards, three-part harmonies, and original material with minor-keyed shifts, they sounded something like a mix between the Zombies and the Turtles. Very popular within their (pretty limited) stomping grounds, they made no impact whatsoever on a national level, issuing four singles on small labels (most of them with producer Ed Cobb, who also handled the Standells and the Chocolate Watch Band). Certainly they were a promising outfit, capable of offering strong original material (most of which, oddly, was penned by a friend who wasnt in the band, Larry Hosford). They didnt have enough time to convert that promise into truly significant work, however. They disbanded in 1967, when their carefully executed pop/rock was falling out of fashion in California, in fav...

The British North American Act In The Beginning 1969 canada uk eminent garage acid psych

The British North American Act In The Beginning 1969 canada uk eminent garage acid psych Named for an act of British Parliament that helped establish the Canadian constitution, the British North-American Act were, fittingly enough, comprised of musicians from both Canada and the U.K. (though in the true spirit of internationalism, keyboard man Andy Bator was born in Hungary), and their sole album, originally released in 1969, is a gentle and likable fusion of folk-rock and psychedelia, with a bit of garage rock creeping in around the edges. "Joe Cool" is a swaggering tale of a self-styled ladies man that wouldnt seem at all out of place on a vintage garage rock playlist (especially with Bob Allens primal guitar work), and "If Youre Looking for Honey" covers similar musical ground, but most of the album follows a gentler and trippier path, especially the sunny "Corduroy Coat," the languid and low-key "The World Would Understand," the baroque pop e...

The City Blues Blues For Lawrence Street 1967 us terrific rough garage rock n blues Vinyl edition

The City Blues Blues For Lawrence Street 1967 us terrific rough garage rock n blues Vinyl edition The original City Blues Band was formed in Fullerton, Calif. in 1966. It made an LP, financed by David R. Hall, a local DJ, in 1967 that sold in in record shops in LA and Orange Counties of So. Calif. About five copies even made it to Victoria around this time. Today it is a sought after collectors item, mostly in Europe. The band then went through several personel changes, mostly guitarists. In its final So. Calif. inception, Bob Lesher was the only original member left. He moved to Victoria in April, 1969, soon to be followed by Mike Balfe (drummer) and Bill Burdick (bassist).  For its Victoria version the band featured Tim Zurowski and Phil Rossner, Victoria guitarists and borrowed Paul Iverson, on bass, from Frendlyn Page prior to Burdick arriving in town. As a result, the bands first gigs were opening for Frendlyn Page. The City Blues dissolved in early 1970 as all the players mix...

The Sonics Psycho Sonic 1964 65 us pioneer garage punk rock 2003 remaster edition

The Sonics Psycho Sonic 1964 65 us pioneer garage punk rock 2003 remaster edition Back in the mid-1960s, the legendary Sonics took rocknroll by the scruff of the neck and thrashed it to within an inch of its sorry life, leaving a legacy of some of the most savage, visceral recordings ever made. Compiling their no-holds-barred Etiquette sessions, "Psycho-Sonic" is the ultimate Sonics anthology. One of the best selling Big Beat releases of recent years has been Psycho-Sonic, a comprehensive collection of all the sides the much-feted kings of garage rock recorded for the Etiquette label in 1964/65. Only the most cloistered of music fans would be unaware of the mighty Tacoma combos influence and importance, now stronger than ever thanks to young bucks such as the White Stripes, Hives, Vines etc constantly dropping the bands name.  With access to first generation tapes recently uncovered by Big Beats ongoing celebration of the catalogue of Sonics mentors, the Wailers, we figured i...

The Music Explosion Little Bit O Soul 1967 us marvelous garage psych beat 2002 remaster

The Music Explosion Little Bit O Soul 1967 us marvelous garage psych beat 2002 remaster This is an improvement over the best previous Music Explosion compilation, One Ways Anthology, in that it not only contains all 21 of the songs from that release, but adds three non-LP B-sides not on that CD. Granted, all three of these B-sides are psychedelic instrumentals that most likely feature session players and not the Music Explosion. But those are rather cool tracks, in the manner of the trippy fuzz guitar-organ psychedelic songs heard on soundtracks to films exploiting the hippie movement. More importantly, perhaps, the package also includes respectful detailed liner notes, with quotes from several bandmembers. All that borne in mind, you still cant get around the fact that the group didnt have anything too great to offer other than "Little Bit o Soul." They did virtually no original material, and their songs were average, OK-to-unexciting pop garage rock with a bit of soul and b...

Request FEVER TREE Fever Tree Another Time Another Place 1968 69 US West Coast Psych Garage Rock

Request FEVER TREE Fever Tree Another Time Another Place 1968 69 US West Coast Psych Garage Rock BOA BANDA AMERICANA QUE FAZIA UM SOM TPICO DAS BANDAS PSICODLICAS DE SAN FRANCISCO COM ALGUMAS EXPERIMENTAES E BOAS GUITARRAS DISTORCIDAS!! AQUI TEMOS OS DOIS PRIMEIROS ALBUNS DOS CARAS NUM DISCO S!! VENENO RECOMENDADO!!   Fever Tree (1968) - Their debut album was a strong psychedelic affair, and included their legendary San Francisco girls along with a smorgasbord of similar gems.  Starting with Bachs Toccata in fugue and minor, this album is a feast of psychedelic experimentation, with strong songs, and strangely seductive distorted guitars.  Another time, another place (1968) - Continuing in the same vein as the first album, this is a similar sounding record, although the musicianship had gotten better.  For me the best moment is the almost Iron Butterfly-ish reworking of "Man who paints the pictures".  A very strong follow up, its a mistery why this a...

The Mystery Trend So Glad I Found You 1966 67 us marvelous folk psych garage rock extra tracks edition

The Mystery Trend So Glad I Found You 1966 67 us marvelous folk psych garage rock extra tracks edition If the Airplane and the Dead were the Beatles and Stones of San Franciscos mid-1960s rock heyday, then the Mystery Trend were its Zombies or Left Banke, peddling craftsmanship and high quality pop songs in an era of burgeoning indulgence. Ahead of anyone else except perhaps the Charlatans, the Trend was the first alternative rock group in the Bay Area, debuting in May 1965. Unlike the ex-folkies and beatniks that comprised the rest of the scene, the group, led by keyboardist and songwriter Ron Nagle, were older and came from an art school background, eschewing the jams and free-form modality of other local groups for concise ensemble arrangements. "The kind of writing that was going on in San Francisco then, to me, it was dogshit" says Nagle."Everyone was into this wankingsoloingpsychedelic-droneout. It was very uncool to play three minute pop songs." Nagle and gui...
