Remembering Chris Cornell Singer/songwriter/musician Chris Cornell died on May 17 from an apparent suicide. He was best known for being the frontman for Seattle rock band Soundgarden and won two Grammy Awards as their lead singer in 1994. While I have enjoyed Soundgardens music over the years, I will remember Chris Cornell best for the song "Hunger Strike," which he recorded with the band Temple of the Dog in 1991. Cornell shared vocal duties on that effort with Pearl Jams Eddie Vedder. Cornell also recorded the song "Sunshower" for the Great Expectations soundtrack in 1998 and that effort is probably my favorite song from his catalog, with "Hunger Strike" close behind. Cornell possessed a strong and versatile singing voice that allowed him to sound equally good whether he was performing a hard rock song or a ballad.
