The Day After The Sabbath 62 The DooM That Time Reprised

The Day After The Sabbath 62 The DooM That Time Reprised Download from [mf] or [mg] password:   tdats TDATS 62: The DooM That Time Reprised ?[?Doom psych and rock?]? by Rich Aftersabbath on Mixcloud Volume 62 is a collection thats been made in the name of Doom. What we have here is mostly progressive rock, from some albums that may or may not have been heavy through-out but had at least one track that invokes that indefinable feeling of impending doom through its riffs or atmosphere. Back when I started this blog, I was talking to a guy called LibertyCaps on the forum at the now defunct stonerrock.com. He made some great proto-doom comps, all of which I have posted here at some point. Since then I have received many requests for more in his series "The Doom That Time Forgot" so I have decided to make my own follow-up to his great mixes, and what cover artists work can I use other than the amazing Virgil Finley again? His unearthly, esoteric vignettes where  made...

The Day After The Sabbath 35 Windmolen Van Doom Netherlands pt 1

The Day After The Sabbath 35 Windmolen Van Doom Netherlands pt 1 Download here: [mf] or [mg] Unzip password:  tdats The Day After The Sabbath 35: Windmolen Van Doom ?[?Netherlands pt.1?]? by Rich Aftersabbath on Mixcloud Happy new year to you all! Volume 35 features artists of Dutch heritage. Karel Appel supplies us with a spooky intro, he was a Dutch abstract-expressionist painter who used a battery of percussion instruments, piano and electric organ for a soundtrack to a 1963 documentary about himself, by cinematographer Jan Vrijman. De Maskers are up next, they released a few albums and singles in the late 60s, guitarist/vocalist Jan de Hont was in Cargo, also appearing here. They play a brilliant slice of ominous psych. The Bag track is the A/B sides of a single from 1971, two pieces of awesome doomy psych that makes me wish I could hear more but they were alas album-less. Blue Planet offer up a driving and melodic track that has some catchy song writing, leading me t...

The Day After The Sabbath 67 The New Order NWOBHM inspired pt 1

The Day After The Sabbath 67 The New Order NWOBHM inspired pt 1 Download from: [mf] or [mg] Password:  tdats During my searches I occaisionally come across bands that have that metallic sound that is ahead of its time; early 70s bands that have elements of what was later termed the NWOBHM (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal). For some time I have been thinking about collecting them together, so here it is. [Edit: Since making this I have done another, volume 121, and an American equivalent, volume 126] If you have never heard of NWOBHM then I guess I have two words that in my opinion describe it best, Judas Priest. The Birmingham, UK band that started out in the early 70s as a fairly typical hard rock band and had a clear, unique progression from the stylings of Sabbath, Zeppelin et al to the sharper, faster late 70s metal sound, influencing Iron Maiden along the way and kick starting all the extreme metal scenes by being a huge favourite of early thrashers like Metallica and the more...

The Day After The Sabbath 33 Heftig Melodien Germany pt 2

The Day After The Sabbath 33 Heftig Melodien Germany pt 2 Download here: [mf] or [mg] Unzip password:  tdats Volume 33 of The Day After The Sabbath is a collection of German heavies (with the exception of Novaks Kapell who were Austrian). It differs from Volume 19: "Kraut Rockin" in that its not specifically intended to include bands that are linked with the Krautrock movement, just great bands! After recording Amon Duul IIs Yeti, Dieter Serfas and Christian Shart split to form their own project called Sameti in Munich in 1971, we start with their catchy Get Up. Second track Hypodermic Needle / Smile Please is the AB sides of a great single from a band that had no albums until much later in their career, which is a shame as Novaks Kapelle showed talent with their super-heavy psych. Baumstam are up next, employing great fuzz guitar. Ash Ra Temple are one of the Krautrock bands here, this track is quite a straight-forward rocking jam compared to their more experimental stuff...

The Day After The Sabbath 137 Tierra del Fuego Argentina 1

The Day After The Sabbath 137 Tierra del Fuego Argentina 1 Download from: [mf] or [yd] Unzip password:   tdats Its time to look at Latin American rock again, this is the fifth round after Brazil (84), Mexico (89), Peru (104) and the general collection in vol 43. If you want more of the same flavour, you could also add the "Chicano and Latin rock in the USA" of vol 118 to that list too. Argentina has always been a prolific maker of music, along with specialities like its native folk and tango scenes, it has been prolific in rockn roll since the 50s. The country prides itself in "Rock Nacional" and singing in the native tongue of Spanish - youll notice none of the songs in this volume are in English, which is unusual compared to any of the other national comps I have done, however exotic their location. Some explanation of Argentinas love of rock is expressed here: "...there was no freedom in Argentina at that time. It was a time of oppression there was a dicta...

The Day After The Sabbath 39 Bandera Inmortal Spain pt 1

The Day After The Sabbath 39 Bandera Inmortal Spain pt 1 Download here: [mf] or [mg] password:  tdats TDATS 39 is a collection of music from Spain. [EDIT since this was made, a second Spanish volume is now here: see Vol 123] After the Spanish Civil War, during the fifty-year dictatorship of Franco, everything pertaining to regional culture was banned. Languages, literature, and music were burned and berated. Musicians before 1975 suffered many difficulties as a result. The kind of material I generally look for was especially rare in the early 70s, just at the time when most of the world was enjoying its peaks. Firstly I must thank Mara at mar-abunta.blogspot.com for some excellent recommendations that have really helped this volume. It starts with Tapiman who, along with The Storm, Lone Star and Leo, were among the more professional sounding bands to draw influence from big, brash hard rock names like Zeppelin and Purple. Lone Stars track is taken from a period TV appearance ...

The Day After The Sabbath 65 Southern Heaven

The Day After The Sabbath 65 Southern Heaven Download from:  [mf] or [mg] pass:  tdats The Day After The Sabbath 65: Southern Heaven ?[?Heavy Southern Rock set?]? by Rich Aftersabbath on Mixcloud Volume 65 is a collection of southern rock and tracks with that southern feel. What ties bands that have been labelled as Southern Rock together? Rock music and its root in blues, jazz and folk/country, was largely evolved in the south of America, and Gregg Allman commented once that "Southern rock" was a redundant term, like "rock rock". The vocalists accents (affected or not) and singing styles are definitely a common attribute in the music I studied for this comp, as is the large amounts of overtly love-lorn or romantic, sometimes teeth-clenchingly sappy lyrics, even on some of the hardest-rockers. I guess we can put this down to the romantic cowboy buried deep in the southern man...luckily he also loves the electric guitar, often more than just one can be heard battling...

The Day After The Sabbath 95 A Shrine to DooM Foregone

The Day After The Sabbath 95 A Shrine to DooM Foregone Download from: [mf] or [mg] password:   tdats Welcome to TDATS 95! Its that time again......another batch of doom-laden misery awaits. Now a tradition here, partly in honour of The DooM That Time Forgot series that was made by RYM friend LibertyCaps a few years ago. For some links to his volumes, and related ones from me, check out the DTTF round-up and check out my most recent doom special: Vol62: The DooM That Time Reprised. Here we have a diverse mix from all over the world. Some of the tracks are from heavy psych/hard rock albums which Id recommend to look out for, like those of Fort Mudge Memorial Dump, The Petards, Atlantis Philharmonic, Icecross, Shuttah and Alphataurus. Then we have the more unexpected inclusions like the Australian jazz experimentalists Company Caine and a single from the pop writer Barry Mason. Once again I have used the art of the talented Virgil Finlay for the cover. Look him up and p...
