RIP MP3 FORMAT TIME TO SAY GOODBYE The time has come to say Goodbye to the most popular digital audio codec �.mp3�.file The developer of the mp3 codec announced this week that it has ended its licensing agreement, ceding to more versatile formats as the new standard for audio files. MP3 is no more or it will be in 6 months � the last known MP3 patents have simply expired The Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits, that created the format, announced this week that it had terminated licensing for certain MP3-related patents. In simple words, they didn�t want to keep it on life support, because there are better ways to store music in the year 2017. The institute said that while the MP3 is still popular with consumers, it has been outpaced by "more efficient audio codecs" with more advanced features. It has been a long and enjoyable voyage of discovery and I have found an absolute ton of stuff. What has become very apparent is that after the new rock genre explosions of the 60s to early 70s, they moved with total gusto into the mid-late 70s with a prevailing hard rock / pub rock sound. Compare the number of bands like this to the number of Aussie progressive or psych acts and there is no doubt of it. Maybe the pioneering, farming and blue collar working man ethic of Australia has a lot to do with it, like in Detroit, guys just wanted to get down the pub after work, get drunk and rock out.
