Quintessence Spirits From Another Time 1969 71 uk based international multicultural trippy psych prog rock 2016 double disc set Formed in fashionable Ladbroke Grove in 1969, this international six-piece played extended, improvisatory compositions highlighted by lengthy guitar solos, flute, sitar and communal, Indian-inspired chanting. They took on Eastern names to match their philosophies, with Australian flautist and founder Ronald Rothfield becoming Raja Ram, for example, and American bassist Richard Vaughan known as Shambhu Babaji. Far from a niche, underground concern, however, Quintessence quickly signed to Island after a major-label bidding war, and soon appeared frequently in the music weeklies, and even live on BBC2 and in Nicolas Roeg�s Glastonbury Fayre. VENENO RECOMENDADO!!   Fever Tree (1968) - Their debut album was a strong psychedelic affair, and included their legendary San Francisco girls along with a smorgasbord of similar gems.  Starting with Bachs Toccata in fugue and minor, this album is a feast of psychedelic experimentation, with strong songs, and strangely seductive distorted guitars.  Another time, another place (1968) - Continuing in the same vein as the first album, this is a similar sounding record, although the musicianship had gotten better.  For me the best moment is the almost Iron Butterfly-ish reworking of "Man who paints the pictures".  A very strong follow up, its a mistery why this a...
